Texture Mapping via Spherical Multi-dimensional Scaling

چکیده
We present a technique for texture mapping arbitrary sphere-like surfaces with minimal distortions by spherical embedding. The embedding is computed using spherical multi-dimensional scaling (MDS). MDS is a family of methods that map a set of points into a nite dimensional domain by minimizing the difference in distances between every pair of points in the original and the new embedding domains. In this paper spherical embedding is derived using geodesic distances on triangulated domains, computed by the fast marching method. The MDS is formulated as a non-linear optimization problem and a fast multi resolution solution is derived. Finally, we show that the embedding of complex objects which are not sphere-like, can be improved by dening a texture dependent scale factor. This scale is the maximal distance to be preserved by the embedding. Experimental results show the benets of the proposed approach.

متن کاملTexture Mapping Using Surface Flattening via Multidimensional Scaling
We present a novel technique for texture mapping on arbitrary surfaces with minimal distortions, by preserving the local and global structure of the texture. The recent introduction of the fast marching method on triangulated surfaces [9], made it possible to compute geodesic distances in O(~ n lg ~ n) where ~ n is the number of triangles that represent the surface. We use this method to design...
متن کاملUsing Trajectory Mapping to Analyze Musical Intervals
Cognitive scientists have often pondered the question of perceptual spaces, that is, the question of how a certain gamut of familiar stimuli might be organized in the mind. We present Trajectory Mapping as an alternative clustering method to the traditional algorithm of Multi-Dimensional Scaling. We suggest that given data about the relationships among stimuli, Multi-Dimensional Scaling provide...
متن کاملFace Recognition in Multi Camera Network with Sh Feature
Multi view face recognition using multiple camera networks is an active research area. The main aim of this paper is to handle different pose variations in multi camera network and recognizing face from those videos. The traditional approaches handle the pose estimation explicitly ,the proposed work will handle the multiple views of the poses .For a given set of multi view video sequences we us...
متن کاملRobust Video-based Face Recognition
In recent years, multi-camera networks have become increasingly common for biometric and surveillance systems. Multi view face recognition has become an active research area in recent years. In this paper, an approach for video-based face recognition in camera networks is proposed. Traditional approaches estimate the pose of the face explicitly. A robust feature for multi-view recognition that ...
